Goals win matches and this was to prove decisive in this evenly contested end of season league match played at Musgrave on Sunday. St Brid’s opened the scoring with a well taken point before Tom McGuckin fired to the net to give us the lead. He then followed up with a point after a miraculous save from the keeper who managed to deflect a close range effort over the bar. St Brigid’s responded with two points before Ciaran Wright (0-2), Canice Mooney (0-2) and Gary Dunlop (0-1) stretched the lead to six with the final score of the half a St Brigid’s point.
We started the second half well with Ciaran Wright slotting over a 65 which was quickly followed by Tom McGuckin’s second goal of the game. A high ball was fed into the congested square, was well fielded by Tom who crashed it to the back of the net. At this stage we had the game under control but St Brigid’s kept chipping away with points to keep themselves in the match. Points from Rory McEvoy, Peter (Og) Carleton and Gary Dunlop gave us a six point cushion with five minutes to go. Credit to St Brigids as they reduced the deficit to three points but we managed to remain strong and see the result out.
