ACHL Div 4B – Davitts 6-13 Ardoyne 0-5

div-4b-league-decider-001The senior hurlers claimed the All County Division 4B league title with an emphatic win over Ardoyne at St Teresas on Sunday 29 August. Ardoyne picked off the first point of the game which was cancelled out by a Rory McEvoy effort before they edged another point in front. At this stage it appeared that wediv-4b-league-decider-008 were in for a tough game but an Anton McCaffrey goal saw the team burst into life. Further scores from Sean Prenter (0-2), Canice Mooney (0-3) Anton McCaffrey (0-1) and Kevin McGrattan (1-1) – his goal coming on the stroke of half time, saw us hold a commanding half time lead 2-8 to 0-4.

As with the first half Ardoyne scored the first point but this was to be their solitary score of the half. We dominated all over the park and good defensive div-4b-league-decider-005play set up many scoring opportunites. Canice Mooney notched a further three points, Anton McCaffrey got his second goal of the game while Martin Mooney and Stephen McGivern picked off fine points. However the highlight of the second half was an incredible hat trick of goals from Tommy Toland – however, how he can claim his third goal is beyond belief. A high ball was fed into the Ardoyne box and as he went to catch the sliotar it flicked of his hand and past the keeper. Tommy will tell you that this was a well rehearsed set play but credit were credit is due three goals in any game is no mean feat. The final whistle saw us run out winners on a 6-13 to 0-5 score and we had clinched our first hurling silverware for a long time. Check out the final league positions by clicking here.
