Davitts 3-11 Cloughmills 3-7Davitts turned in a hard fought and sprirted performance to avenge their championship defeat at the hands of Cloughmills and proceed to the Division 3 play-off final against Clooney Gaels. This was a hard fought battle all over the park and with Davitts playing with the wind advantage in the first half Cloughmills were put under extreme pressure. However, after Davitts got the first point of the game Cloughmills went up the pitch and from a rebounded shot the ball ended up in the back of the net. This actually kick started the Davitt effort and with some great play and some nice scores they got on top to go in at the interval with a six point advantage. The second half saw Cloughmills renew their effort but the Davitt’s defence held solid. Davitts had many chances to extend their lead but failed to hit the target. This allowed Cloughmills to edge their way back into the game and with a few minutes to go a long range point tied the scores. The game looked as if it could be heading for extra time but sub Ciaran Wright with his first touch of the match struck a tremendous point which was quickly followed with the killer goal which was to win it for Davitts.Outstanding in defence for Davitts was Sean Smyth, ably assisted by Kev McParland while the midfield of Mooney and Prenter battled hard. Credit must be given to all Davitts players for their committment and effort and to the forward line who worked hard to get their scores. It is now fitting that the teams that finished first and second in the league format, Clooney Gaels and Davitts should now contest the decider for promotion to Division 2.
