The members of Michael Davitt GAC attended their AGM on Sunday 5 December. Amongst the reflections of 2010 were notable successes at juvenile level, including 3 tournaments at Under 12 level, one at Under 10 and another for a very decent under 14 team. Added to this was a very credible performance from an inexperienced Under 16 side who will now go forward to represent the club at minor level for the first time in a few years.
Â
At senior level, without doubt, pride of place went to the Senior Hurlers who lifted two titles, the Division 4 All County League and the Ulster League at Level 5. Full credit goes to the management team of Eugene Gallagher, Jim Davis, Stephen Brady and Connor Brady, and the club wishes them the very best for the season ahead. Whilst the Senior Footballers unfortunately lost out narrowly in their relegation fight at the bottom of Division 2, the club did lift the Beringer Cup at the third attempt having been beaten in the previous two finals. Again, credit goes to Danny Toner and his team for battling on with a small squad and we can only hope that young players such as Billy McGovern, Donal Brady, Tony Kelly and others can come through from minor level in the next few years to boost the quality and quantity that the management has to choose from.
Â
The club coaches now get a well earned break but a ‘Coaching for Coaches’ day has been arranged for Sunday 23rd January so all current coaches and any new volunteers are invited to come along to Grosvenor Leisure Centre at 10am that day. From then it will be all systems go and we look forward together for the challenges ahead in representing with pride our community and club and competing as well as we can in our Gaelic games. Â
Â
It is also a big year for the club as we prepare for the Centenary Year in 2012, a major landmark for any organisation, and one which will be celebrated by members and friends alike in a fitting manner.
Â
At Committe level, it was very much as you were with the present incumbents being unopposed:
