The footballers ran out comfortable winners of this replayed Beringer Cup tie at Boucher Road. We controlled the game from start to finish, opening up with a Ryan Rooney point from 35 yards. This was followed by a Daniel Largey point before Gortnamona registered their first point of the game. Our next point was the score of the game. Gerard Burns laid a handpass off to Sean O’Neill on the right hand sideline and with the outside of his foot hosted an effort straight between the posts. At this stage Gorts were hanging in as they kicked another point but a well executed Ryan Rooney goal followed by points from Anton McGrattan and Daniel Largey sent us in at the break with a lead 1-5 to 0-2.
Collie O’Riordan came on as a sub in the the second half and made an instant
impact as he slotted over a left footed effort, quickly followed by Daniel Largey’s third point of the game. Gerard Burns got his first of the game before Gortnamona manged their first score of the second half. Daniel Largey and Liam McGivern points put us in a commanding position but with a converted penalty Gortnamona kept a glimmer of hope of getting back into the game. However, a long range Jake O’Rawe point and a Colm McAuley goal stretched the lead. Gortnamona replied with two points but the final point of the game came from Sean O’Neill to see us into the next round on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-5.
