JHC – Group 1 – Round 1 – Ros Earcain 2-18 Mac Dáibhéid 1-11

This opening group game in the Junior Hurling Championship was a very tight affair as both teams went at it hammer and tong from the start with the game tied at 0-5 apiece after 16 minutes. Our scores came from Don Whelan who pointed 0-2 from frees, one from inside his own half, Canice Mooney, Stephen McGivern, also from inside his own half, and Marcas Toner. Ros Earcain edged a point in front to lead 0-6 to 0-5 at the first water break. We were back level on the resumption with another Don Whelan pointed free before Peter Carleton finished off a great passage of play involving Canice Mooney and Anthony Rowntree as he blasted the sliotar to the back of the net. Further points from Stephen McGivern a Marcas Toner gave us a much deserved half-time lead 1-8 to 0-6.

It was Ros Earcain who dominated proceedings on the restart as they clawed their way back into the game and after 10 minutes of the second half had wiped out the deficit scoring 1-5 unanswered. A Marcas Toner point reduced the lead to two but Ros Earcain continued to pick off the points and two further points put them in a strong position with 10 minutes to go. Again, Marcas Toner pointed but the final blow came when Ros Earcain scored their second goal to dent any hopes of a comeback. From here on, Ros Earcain saw the game out adding 5 further points with our response a single point from Marcas Toner.
