Senior Footballers make it two from two

St Gall’s 0-10 v 0-11 DavittsThere was only a point separating the sides in this highly competitive Division 3 confrontation, played at Milltown. The home side asserted their intention playing some fast, flowing football and taking an early lead 0-3 to 0-1 (Fra McCabe). However, we stemmed the tide and played ourselves back into the game with solid defending from Patrick Maguire and making better use of the ball. Four unanswered points Ryan Rooney, Fra McCabe, Ciaran O’Riordan and Collie O’Riordan put us into a half time lead 0-5 to 0-3.The second half was just as tough but Sean O’Neill and Fra McCabes endless long runs were proving to be decisive. Points from Sean and Fra, Stephen Dobbin, and Ryan Rooney kept us in front as St Galls traded point for point. With five minutes to go St Gall’s equalised and set up a tense finish. All credit to the defense who stood strong breaking up the St Gall’s speedy attacks allowing us to counter. A point from Anton McCaffrey looked to have secured the points but back came St Gall’s with a long range effort to equalise. With time running out we had one final attack as the ball was moved out to the left wing where substitute Gavin Shaw took clean possession, sidestepped his marker and cooly slotted over the winning point. This gives us maximum points after two outings and a stepping stone to build for the rest of the campaign. Their were solid efforts all over the park but Patrick Maguire, in defense, Sean O’Neill and Fra McCabe in the middle had outstanding games.Team v St Galls: S McGovern, D O’Neill, P Maguire, G Burns, M Rowntree, F McCabe, N McCleave, C O’Riordan, C O’Riordan, S O’Neill, S Dobbin, A McGrattan, L McGivern, R Rooney.
