U14 Father Mullan Cup – Davitts 0-9 St John’s 2-4

The U14 footballers put in a gallant performance at Milltown against St John’s in this quarter final tie of the Father Mullan Cup. In the first half we played some outstanding football. We passed the ball well, maintained good possession and took some excellent scores to lead at half time on a scoreline of 0-7 to 1-2.

Playing against the breeze in the second half we again played some promising football. However St John’s got vital goals to edge in front, one coming after a fine save from the young Davitt keeper who parried the ball onto the inside of the crossbar only to see it rebound across the line into the back of the net. With St John’s leading by a point with several minutes to go we pressed forward looking for an equaliser and almost got it when a rasping goal bound shot cannoned against the crossbar and away to safety. This was our final scoring opportunity and at the final whistle we came up short by a single point.

We had outstanding performances all over the park, our corner backs of Caolan Kearns and Chris Gallagher showed their pace and handling skills as they broke up numerous St John’s attacks. Sweetpea was solid in the centre half back line while Padraig McParland had his best game of the season in midfield. Up front Conor McCashan, Niall Hughes and Brendy Collins were the pick of the forwards.
