The senior footballers put in a spirited display in this Ulster junior football championship quarter final at Pairc Esler last Sunday but the more experienced Glassdrumman team came out on top.
We totally controlled the first twenty minutes and Glassdrumman couldn’t get a foothold in the game. Our game plan was working to a treat but our downfall was that we didn’t convert the numerous scoring opportunities we had during this time. As a result we didn’t keep the scoreboard ticking over and in a low scoring first half we only held a point advantage 0-3 to 0-2 with our scores coming from Aaron Slane, Sean O’Neill and Anto McGrattan. Our cause wasn’t helped when we had to replace influential midfielder Sean O’Neill just before the break due to injury which gave the Down men fresh impetus as he had been a thorn in their side and was causing them loads of problems.
Glassdrumman opened brightly in the second half and when they struck the back of the net it looked as if they had all the momentum, however in a swift attack a Glassdrumman defender committed a foul in the box which resulted in the award of a penalty. Daniel Largey dually dispatched the penalty to the back of the net.  We were well in the game up to the last ten minutes but it was the Down men who were to finish the the stronger and their experience saw them over the winning line. Our second half  points came from Padraig McParland, Gerard Burns and Christopher Gallagher.
