Last Thursday night our U10 hurlers where invited to participate in a tournament at O’Donnells. Unfortunately two teams failed to arrive which left ourselves and the hosts to battle out for the honours.
We proceeded to play an 11 a side game over three periods. The attitude from the start from the midfield pairing of R McLaughlin and CJ Sullivan was immense and this had a knock on affect on the whole team. We deservedly led by a goal at the end of this period and could have been further in front, however in the second period O’Ds started to come into the game and scored 1-2 but credit to our lads who kept hurling away creating chances.
The third period was full of determination by both teams and J McNally was a rock at the heart of defence. A Quinn then scored a great goal as he latched onto a long ball and right at the death K Curley saved a certain goal by blocking it away. We thought that we had won the match by a point but the referee declared the game a draw.
The winner on the night was the hurling displayed from these young lads. These kids are starting to come of age, their skills are improving, they show great determination and effort on the field to compete for every ball and the team spirit was there for all to see.
The two teams will play for the trophy again  in the coming weeks so try and come and watch the future hurlers off the club. Well done to everyone who has supported and trained these young lads and also thanks to O’Donnells.
