The senior footballers travelled to Toome on Wednesday night to take on Cargin, their third league away match in a row. Unfortunately we were to go down by a point but it was a game where we had enough possession and chances to the win the game. This has been a factor in most of our games and at critical times when we have put ourselves into positions to win games we struggle to close out the victory.
We opened brightly and with points from Ryan Rooney, Sean O’Neill and Seamus McCleave we took a 0-3 to 0-1 lead only for Cargin to respond with 1-2. We tied the game with further points from Sean O’Neill and Rory McEvoy but again another Cargin goal put us on the back foot. Both teams exchanged points, (Ciaran O’Riordan) to leave us trailing by three; 2-3 to 0-6 at half time.
We battled hard in the second half and early points from Ryan Rooney, Gerard Burns and Sean O’Neill cancelled out three Cargin points to still leave three between the sides. We were then awarded a penalty and Ciaran O’Riordan duly dispatched it to the back of the Cargin net to level the game and when he slotted over a point we were in the driving seat with four minutes left to play. However, Cargin rallied and again levelled the scores before a point in the dying seconds gave them a one point advantage and the win.  For photos of the game click here.
