The U16 footballers got their second win of the week when battling through a hard fought game against O’Donnells at McCrory Park on Thursday night. Having beat Rossa B comprehensively on Monday night we were upbeat about putting in a strong performance and this was want was needed as O’Donnells put us under severe pressure from the first whistle. If it hadn’t been for some wayward shooting from the O’Donnell’s forwards we would have found ourselves behind at half time, however, with the assistance of the wind we went in at half time leading 0-5 to 1-1 with our scores coming from P McAuley 0-2, N Maginn 0-2 and C Slane 0-1.
The game appeared to be ebbing away from us mid way through the second half as O’Donnells took a three point advantage and were in the ascendency. However, we showed our grit and determination to fight back into the game and with C Slane kicking 0-3 there was everything to fight for going into the last ten minutes.  A long ball kicked to the edge of the square was taken by E Gallagher and he dispatched a pile driver to the back of the O’Donnell’s net to give us the lead. We followed this up with another C Slane point and despite O’Donnell’s best efforts in the dying minutes we held solid to take a two point win.
