The 2012 World Handball Championships are up and running at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin and first person from the club to play last night was Anto McGrattan. His opponent, in the Masters B Singles competition, was  Michael Delaney from Carlow. Anto was quick into his rhytmn and raced into a 12-2 lead but the Carlow man fought his way back to reduce the lead to 3. However at this point Anto pushed on to take the first game 21-9.
Delaney started brightly in the second and took a 7-3 advantage but Anto changed his tactics and mixed his serves up which put his opponent on the back foot. This changed the game in his favour and he finished strongly to take the second game 21-9 and the match.
Anto’s next game is on Saturday when he takes on Michael McGinley with a 9.00am start. Also in action on Saturday is Stephen Brady who plays at 5.30pm in the Silver Masters B Competition against Martin Cooney while Kev McParland takes on the winner of  Sean McCrory and Michael Clerkin in the Masters B Singles at 10.30pm. Young Peter Carlton goes into ation on Sunday at 1.00pm when he will face Ian McLoughlin in the Men’s U23 competition.
