The senior footballers still await their first win of the season after going down by five points away to Ros Earcain on Wednesday evening.
The game was a slow starter with both teams enjoying a share of the possession but neither able to make any in roads to create scoring opportunities. The game sprung to life when Aaron Slane kicked a 2 point free from the left side of the pitch in the 6th minute. The Dreen men responded with their first score after, a good period of possession, cutting in from the right and kicking between the sticks.
They too added a 2 point free from a central position just outside the arc to take the lead. We replied with a well worked goal as a ball was kicked into Anto McGrattan who fed a pass off and the ball was cracked to the back of the net. We then gifted Ros Earcain a point after they turned over the ball when we seemed to be controlling the play, but good work from Deaglan Mooney resulted in a shot from outside the arc and the addition of two points. Unfortunately this was to be our last score of the half. Despite having enough of the ball we just couldn’t tag on further scores and were punished with Ros Earcain kicking 2-3 to go in at the break with a 2-7 to 1-4 lead, both goals coming in the space of a minute.

The second half followed a similar pattern with both teams unable to penetrate into the scoring zone resulting in a low scoring affair with a combined tally of seven additional points. The Ros Earcain goals at the end of the first half proved to be decisive and as the saying goes “goals win you games” with the home side winners on a score of 2-10 to 1-8.
