ACHL Div 3 – Mac Dáibhéid 0-22 Naomh Eanna 1-8

The senior hurlers got their first win of the league campaign when accounting for Naomh Eanna at Páirc Mhic Dháibhéid.

Donn Whelan opened the scoring with a point from a 65 after 2 minutes and then pointed a free from the right wing before Caoimhin Rainey raced past his marker and fired the sliotar over the bar to give us an early advantage. Naomh Eanna opened their account in the 8th minute with a point from play and quickly followed with a nice long range point after a nice passage of handpassing to leave the minimum between the sides.

We then enjoyed a good spell during which we added points from Donn Whelan 0-3 (1f), Cormac Maguire and Caoimhin Rainey (0-2). A brace of pointed frees from Naomh Eanna kept them in touch but another two points from the lively Caoimhin Rainey gave us a 0-11 to 0-4 lead at short whistle.

Naomh Eanna were quickly out of the traps on the restart. A quick goal followed by a point from a tight angle reduced our lead to a goal and gave the visitors fresh impetus. However, we steadied and struck seven consecutive points with sharp shooter Donn Whelan striking 0-5 (2fs), Deaglan Mooney with his first of the day and Caoimhin Rainey adding to his tally to push us into a comfortable lead. From this point we were able to control the game to conclusion out-scoring our opponents four points to three in the last five minutes for a deserved win 0-22 to 1-8. Our final points of the game coming from Don Whelan (0-2) , Chris Gallagher with an excellent long range pointed free and Caoimhin Rainey.
