The senior footballers collected their first win of the season away to Creggan last Wednesday night. We played against the breeze in the first half and contained any threat that Creggan posed. Great defensive work and first half points from Ciaran O’Riordan 0-1 and Gerard Burns 0-2 ensured that we went in at half time trailing by the minimum margin 0-4 to 0-3.
We played some nice football in the second half and with Colm McAuley
having his best game of the season we took control of the game. Further score from Seamus McCleave 0-2, Anto McGrattan 0-1 and Gerard Burns 0-1 gave us the lead and we pushed on to dominate the game. A swift flowing move up field was finished to the net by Sean O’Neill and with Ryan Rooney adding 0-2 we were left the victors by 5 points.
Best on the night were Colm McAuley, Rory McEvoy, Ciaran O’Riordan and Sean O’Neill. It was also pleasing to see that we had four minors on the team, Billy McGovern, Thomas Toland, Mark Marron, and Conor Toner. It was also a first in manys a year with a father and son lining out on the night: Tommy Toland senior and Thomas og. Click here for photos of the game.
