Child Protection Awareness Course

A Child Protection Awareness Course was held in the clubrooms on Thursday December 2005. The course was delivered by Monica Culbert and was well attended by club coaches. The Club Chairman, Tommy Shaw, opened the course by introducing Monica and explaining to the attendees the importance of adhering to the club’s code of conduct and the importance of ensuring that we continue to adhere to the policies and practices associated with making sport enjoyable and safe for all our children.Monica then proceeded to outline the code of ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport which has been agreed between An Comhairle Spoirt and Sport’s Council NI. She gave a comprehensive presentation on the roles and responsibilities of coaches, team mentors, helpers and the children themselves, explaining good practice guidelines which help create a positive culture and climate within sport.By the end of the evening everyone was fully aware of their responsibilty to provide a safe, positive and nuturing environment where children can develop and enhance their physical and social skills and that promoting a child centred ethos should go hand in hand with identifying and eliminating practices that impact negatively on safe and enjoyable participation in all activities provided by the club.
