Three more Antrim handball titles

Three more titles came the way of Davitts handballers at St Pauls. In the Masters B Doubles final Joe Murphy and Stephen Brady overcame the McDermott pair of Edmund Brennan and Anthony McCann. This was revenge for the Davitts duo who last year lost to the same pair, however on this occassion the Davitts boys were in no mood to be defeated and in two quick games triumphed 7 and 5.The Junior Doubles saw victory for Chris Brady and Kevin McParland over the Gortnamona pairing of Dan Keenan and Dominic Marley. Gortnamona got off to a flyer in the first game racing into a 17 -7 lead and they appeared to be on their way to comfortably taking the game but in a spirited fightback Chris and Kevin got themselves back in with a chance. The scores went 20-18 in favour of Dan and Dominic but they couldn’t get over the finish line and the Davitt’s pair scraped through 21-20. This seemed to knock the heart out off the Gortnamona lads as Chris and Kev raced to a 21-4 second game win to retain their title. The third title came in the Senior Doubles when Owen McKenna teamed up with Ricky McCann of Gortnamona against the Gortnamona pairing of Paddy Crothers and John McGarry. Despite Paddy and John putting the favourites Owen and Ricky under extreme pressure they just couldn’t hang on to their 12-7 lead and the experience and quality of the favourites came through for a two game win.
