Davitts U12s pip Rossa in Goal Feast Thriller

The final score was an amazing 7-5 to 5-9 when the Davitts Under 12 team travelled to Shaws Road to take on their Rossa counterparts last Friday evening. So the spectators who turned up to support their respective clubs were certainly treated to some great entertainment from both sides, and full credit to all the boys for providing this spectacle.Rossa started the match much more impressively and Davitts were very fortunate not to be more than a couple of points down after the first 5 minutes or so. Then, as tends to be the case with this team, they burst into action with goals, Brendan Collins notching the first, getting his reward with a block on the goalkeeper’s clearance which just about crossed the line. Then poacher supreme Niall Hughes netted from close in before Patrick Quinn blasted the goal of the game from around 25 yards out on the wing. Rossa scored a few more points to leave the scoreline 3-2 to 0-4 at the break.Davitts looked to have the game won early in the second period when Niall Hughes scored his second of the game and this was quickly followed by a nice fisted goal from Conor Moreland. However, this was the stage in the game when Rossa took over with Deaglan Murphy, Daniel Rocks and Tom Maguire all running at the pressurised Davitts defence. Murphy scored a couple of excellent goals as Rossa pegged their way back to within a few points but Davitts continued to look dangerous on the break and indeed, grabbed two vital goals through Moreland and another peach from Daniel Wilson. Back came Rossa however to grab a few more goals and points so that by the end of the game, the referee needed some assistance to actually work out the final tally of scores for each side! This was a great advertisement of sporting skill and excitement and it was a pity one team had to lose out on the night. Davitts had good performances all over the park with Ryan Sewell making some fine saves in goal, Christopher Gallagher and Adam Donaghy were rock solid in defence, whilst Padarig McParland and Daniel Wilson were good going forward from midfield but need to work on the defensive side of their game. Patrick Quinn and Niall Hughes were the best of the forwards and hopefully the boys can take this form into the last 2 league games as second spot is still a possibility for the boys from Clonard.
