Hurler’s back to winning ways

The Senior hurler’s produced a solid performance at Boucher Road on Saturday night when they accounted for a tough and determined Buncranna team in the Ulster Hurling League. After a few disappointing games we were hoping for an improved performance and that is exactly what we got.Despite playing against a strong breeze we raced into an 2-2 to no score lead with points from Sean Smith, a goal for both Cormac Maguire and Gearoid Cosgrove and an amazing point from Peter Carleton. We defended well, moving the ball into space and making it difficult for the Donegal men to make use of the wing advantage. However, a moments lapse resulted in them drilling the ball to the net and then a long range point from a free to close the deficit. We kept our compusure and shape, something which we haven’t done well recently and a further two Peter Carleton points took us into a half time lead of 2-4 to 1-1.We were caught on the hop at the start of the second half with Buncranna reeling of a goal and two points to level the match. Again we responded well, with Peter Carleton striking to the net and substitute Ciaran Wright picking off two exquisite points. Buncarnna fired over a minor before we extended the lead with points from Paul Morgan, Stephen McGivern and Ciaran Wright to lead 3-9 to 2-5. A goal and a point from Buncranna heightened the tension in the last few minutes but the final point of the game from Ciaran Wright gave us a deserved four point winning margin. This was an excellent all round performance, with special praise for the defense who worked hard all night against a useful side.Team: M Brady, B Keating, T Toland, E Gallagher, M Rowntree, M O’Brien, C McNally, R McAvoy, S Smith (0-1), P Morgan (0-1), S McGivern (0-1), C Mooney, C Maguire (1-0), G Cosgrove (1-0), P Carleton (1-3). Subs: C Wright (0-4), A Maguire, S Prenter, J Davis.
