The senior footballers put up a gallant performance when going down to Tir Na Nog last Saturday night at Glenavy. With the Randalstown men scoring 3-1 within 15 minutes it looked as if this was going to be a one sided game. However, we steadied the ship and with points from Stevie Dobbin, Liam McGivern, Colm McAuley and Gerard Burns we played our way back into the game. We responded to another Tir Na Nog point with two goals, from Anto McGrattan and Sean McGovern to leave a point between the teams. Tir Na Nog kicked the last point of the half to leave us trailing by two but still in the game.
The second half was a tough encounter as both teams looked to push on for the win. Both teams added two points to their tally with our points from Sean McGovern and Anto McGrattan before Tir Na Nog kicked three unanswered points to stretch the lead to five. At this stage we threw everything at the Tir Na Nog defense, and as with the hurlers the previous week if we had taken our scoring chances the final result may have been different. During this period Gerard Burns and Daniel Largey added points but in injury time Tir Na Nog added a point and right on the whistle took a goal chance to leave them victors on a seven point margin.
