Owen McKenna has progressed to the last 16 of the 2013 All-Ireland Senior men’s 40×20 open singles competition. He came through two qualifying rounds at the weekend, defeating Paul Funchion of Kilkenny in two games on Friday night at Kingscourt 21-6 and 21-13. He was then meant to play Wexford’s Gavin Buggy on Sunday but Buggy withdrew due to injury giving Owen the passage to the last 16. Owen’s opponent this weekend is Michael Gregan from Wicklow and this should be an evenly matched contest and one he will have high hopes of winning.
