Senior Hurling Update

The senior hurlers have struggled to find any sort of consistency this season and are finding it difficult to get points on the board. Their last three games have seen them away to both Ballymena and Larne and a home fixture at Falls Park against the McDermotts/Ardoyne combination.

At Ballymena, in the first half they produced their best performance of the season. They totally outclassed their opponents after a slow start, and knocked over some exquisite points, the highlight coming from Gearoid Cosgrove while playing from right back managed to score two fine points from play. We held a  four point advantage at half time 2-7  to 1-6. We failed to maintain our intensity in the second half and Ballymena gradually took control and chipped away at the deficit. With the scores tied at 2-10, it was Ballymena who finished the stronger and a couple of late goals put a gloss on the score line and gave them the points on a score 4-12 to 2-11.

Scorers:Paul McGivern 1-1, Canice Mooney 0-3, Stephen McGivern 0-2, Gearoid Cosgrove  0-2, Sean Smith 0-2, Michael Rowntree 0-1. (Not sure who got our second goal).

Last Sunday we picked up our first points of the campaign, when beating Larne 5-10 to 4-1.  First half goals from Michael Brady, Paul McGivern and Stephen McGivern gave us a good foundation upon which to build and with further second half goals, a blistering Stephen Dempster strike to the net and a Sean Smith lob which trundled over the line saw us take the spoils.

Scorers: Stephen McGivern 1-6, Paul McGivern 1-1, Sean Smith 1-1, Michael Brady 1-0, Stephen Dempster 1-1, Canice Mooney 0-1.

Wednesday night saw us lose out late on to McDermotts/Ardoyne. Playing with the wind in the second half we took control and with five minutes remaining held a four advantage. However, we failed to close the game out and two late goal strikes saw us pay the price as we went down 2-9 to 1-8.

Scorers: Michael Brady 1-1, Canice Mooney 0-3, Stephen McGivern 0-2, Sean Smith 0-1, Paul McGivern 0-1.
