The U12 footballers captured the Cardinal O’Donnell B Cup on Sunday morning at Woodlands against St Teresas. It was an excellent game with both teams displaying a high level of skill. The first half was a cagey affair with both teams working hard to try and get the upper hand. With the scores tied at 0-3 (ours scores from P Robinson, N McParland and K McKinney) we gained the advantage with a fine strike to the back of the St Teresa’s net from P Robinson. This sent us in at half time with a three point lead.
St Teresas came got all guns blazing at the start of the second half and although B Craig kicked a fine point to extend our lead we were rocked by two quick goals from the Glen Road outfit to leave us trailing by two. However, we re-grouped and playing some nice football we re-established our composure. We went back into the lead following another P Robinson point and when K McKinney kicked to the net we had regained the lead. We pushed on from here and with goals from C Farley and F Devlin and points from K McKinney and C Crane we stretched our advantage. Despite St Teresas best efforts to comeback we held solid all over the pitch to secure a deserved win.
Well done to both teams and their mentors for what was an enjoyable game.
