The U16 footballers got their league campaign off to a winning start when beating St Malachy’s in a hard fought game at Boucher Road. We controlled the game early on and established a 2-3 to 1-1 lead with B Collins 1-1, P McAuley 1-1 and A Slane 0-1 getting the scores. We finished the half strongly with two converted frees from P Mc Parland and one from T Carberry to leave the half time score 2-6 to 1-1.
P McAuley opened the second half scoring with a well taken point to stretch our advantage but St Malachy’s rallied strongly kicking 1-3 without reply to leave a goal between the teams. However, we steadied the ship and with points from P McParland, C Park and T Carberry we restored a two goal cushion. St Malachy’s came back at us again and a further 1-1 reduced the match to a 2 point game but we had done enough to secure the win.
