The U16 footballers added the Teeling Shield to their league title when accounting for O’Donnells at St Teresas last Saturday.
It was O’Donnells who got off to the better start and after eight minutes led 0-2 to 0-0. However, we got our first point of the game when P McParland found A Slane from a sideline ball and he duly rounded the O’Ds defender and fired a right foot shot over the bar. O’Donnells replied with another point before we tagged over three points, the first following a swift move upfield involving A Rowntree and C Park and finished by P McAuley and then two well executed dead ball kicks from P McParland, one from 45 metres and the other from 35 metres from a difficult angle on the left side of the pitch. At this stage O’Donnells were posing a threat but great work in defense ensured that they didn’t add any scores. We then got our first goal of the game when A Rowntree shipped a heavy shoulder charge, took possession of the ball, fed it out the wing to C Slane who pin pointed a pass to B Collins who blasted to the back of the O’Ds net. This was immediately followed by a second goal this time D Wilson hitting the net after good work from N Maginn. The final point of the half came from O’Donnells giving us a 2-4 to 0-4 advantage.
D Wilson got his second goal of the game early in the second half when he lobbed the ball into the O’Ds square, where it
deceived everyone and ended up in the back of the net. From here on we were in total control of the game and a P McAuley pile driver to the net followed by two well taken points from M Bradley gave us a commanding lead. O’Donnells added two further points but we finished the game with a D Wilson point and another P McAuley goal to claim the title 5-7 to 0-6. Click here for photos of the game.
We now face Aghagallon in the All-County final with the date, venue and time still to be confirmed. Well done.
