The Senior footballers picked up their first win of the league campaign when accounting for Dunloy at Boucher Road. We went into a 0-2 to 0-1 lead with points from Sean McGovern and Liam McGivern before we were reduced to fourteen men with a sending off. This could have been disastrous for us but it acted as a catalyst as we raised the tempo of the game and slotted over five unanswered points with Liam McGivern 0-2, Ryan Rooney 0-1, Collie O’Riordan 0-1 and Sean McGovern 0-1 giving us a deserved advantage 0-7 to 0-1. In the final minute of the first half a Dunloy attack resulted in a goal to leave the half time score 0-7 to 1-1 in our favour.
We started the second half where we left of in the first in total control. We played patient football, biding our time and scored at will. An Anto McGrattan point followed up by a well taken goal virtually killed the game of as a contest and when Darren O’Neill scored his first point in over a year we knew this was to be our night. Daniel Largey then fired a shot past the Dunloy keeper before Collie O’Riordan slotted over a left footed effort to take the score to 2-10 to 0-3. Dunloy briefly threatened with a goal and two points but a Ryan Rooney goal left the final score 3-10 to 2-3 and deservedly gave us the two points.
This without doubt was our best performance of the season and shows exactly the capabilities of this squad. In the backline Noel McCleave and Sean O’Neill worked tirelessly while Ryan Rooney had an outstanding game. Overall this was a great team peformance and credit to everyone for the hard work and endeavour as they played most of the game with fourteen me. Check the Gallery link for photos of the game.
