ACFL Div 2 – Muine Glás 0-13 Mac Dáibhéid 1-9

The senior footballers went down by the minimum margin in their final league game before the split away to league leaders Muine Glás on Sunday.

Aaron Slane opened the scoring with a point from a 45 but the Muine Glás response was immediate as they raced off four unanswered points to take early control. Padraig McParland then pointed following a great solo run but further Muine Glás points gave them some breathing space. Padraig McParland added a further point to his tally before CJ Sullivan raced towards the Muine Glás goal, was upended and the referee duly awarded a penalty. Goalkeeper, Aaron Slane stepped up and drove the ball to the back of the net to level the game. Muine Glás responded with another four point salvo but an Aaron Slane pointed free from out on the left side of the pitch was the final score of the half with Muine Glás holding a three point advantage 0-10 to 1-4.

The second half was very competitive with both teams struggling to create scoring opportunities. Padraig McParland then took the game by the scruff of the neck, causing the Muine Glás all sorts of problems with his direct running and the addition of 2 points left the minimum between the sides. It took 18 minutes for Muine Glás to kick their first point of the second half but CJ Sullivan pointed to again leave us a single point in arrears. However, Muine Glás extended their advantage to a goal with two well taken points but we responded with Padraig McParland back on target with a point following a great solo run and a second after great work down the side line form Gerard Slane. We pushed to gat an equaliser but time caught us up and at the final whistle Muine Glás had held on for th win 0-13 to 1-9.
