Despite the losing margin the senior hurlers produced a solid performance even in defeat. We were well in the game and it was only after the second water break that Carryduff pulled away for the victory.
Both teams battled hard from the start with plenty of big hits in a tough but fair encounter trading point for point with Stephen McGivern on target with 3 points from frees, before an opportune goal edged the home side in front 1-3 to 0-3. Carryduff extended their lead with 3 unanswered points but we finished the half on the up as Stephen McGivern added another 2 points to his tally to leave us trailing 1-6 to 0-5 at the break.
Carryduff extended their lead on the restart with another brace of points and while Stephen McGivern pointed a 65, Carryduff struck another 2 points. Marcus Toner then got on target with a point and then a great attack saw Anthony Rowntree take possession of the sliotar, lay it off to Cormac Maguire who blasted it to the Carryduff net to reduce the Carryduff lead to a goal.
However, the water break halted any momentum we had built and from the resumption Carryduff pushed on, finishing the stronger and with another goal opened up their advantage. We dug deep and despite further points from Marcus Toner and Stephen McGivern, Carryduff tagged on a few points and took the victory on a scoreline of 2-18 to 1-9.
