The senior footballers opened their IFC group campaign with a six point win over Ros Eracain at Páirc Mhic Dháibhéid.
We were quick out of the blocks with points from Aaron Slane (45) and a Chris Rafferty free to establish an early advantage. Eoin McNeill pointed for Ros Earcain but Deaglan Mooney responded with a long range point to restore the two point advantage. Ros Earcain were back on level terms when goalkeeper Tiernan Boyle converted a free from 45 yards and Sean Ellis kicked a nice point. Both teams traded points with Aaron Slane and Chris Rafferty on target with the final point of the half coming from an Aaron Slane free to give us a point lead 0-6 to 0-5.
We extended our lead on the restart with further points from Aaron Slane and Chris Rafferty while Sean Ellis replied with a point for the visitors. Gerard Slane restored our three point advantage with a well taken point. Further points were traded with Anto McGrattan on target following a good spell of possession football. A Ros Earcain point from a free by Ryan Lynch closed the gap to two but again Gerard Slane pointed to restore our goal lead.
We doubled our lead in the 53rd minute when Padraig McParland was upended in the box and goalkeeper Aaron Slane dispatched the resultant penalty to the net. The teams again traded points with Anto McGrattan and Padraig McParland on target to leave us winners 1-13 to 0-10.
Next up is an away trip to Con Magees on 27 August with a 6pm throw-in.
