The old saying that goals win games was definitely true for the Davitts under 18’s as they accounted for Sarsfields in a league encounter at Boucher Road. This was a pleasing performance and a much deserved win. We battled all over the pitch and made it very difficult for Sarsfields to create clear cut scoring opportunities.
However, on the two occasions when they got behind the defence E Gallagher came to the rescue with two outstanding saves. Big Arnie got us off the mark when he lobbed a 14 yard free over the Sarsfield’s keeper to the back of the net  before Sarsfields replied with three unanswered points. Both teams worked hard but scores were hard to come by which left the half time score level 1-0 to 0-3.
We started the second half with big Arnie blasting to the back of the net for his second goal of the game and as with the first half Sarsfields replied with three points. Â B McGovern then fired the ball to the roof of the Sarsfields net before T Kelly finished off a swift break up field with a well taken point. Another goal this time from J Winchester gave us a seven point lead and when Sarsfields goaled with five minutes left the game was on. We continued to frustrate Sarsfields with great defensive work and restricted them to a further point to win the game by three.
This was a great display and everyone played their part in this win but special mention must go to the following players, E Gallagher, A Rowntree, M Mallon, Fitzy, J Close, J Winchester, T Kelly, T Toland, C Toner, P McAuley, Big Arnie, Â and B McGovern
